This is a part of a letter which I wrote to Peter Hagen by way of explanation. I hope it will be helpful.

Actually this is all Bob Dole's Fault!  He announced on Television that our troops were being short changed.  This was news to me.  I did not know that there was a problem because there are so many foundations across this country which exist to help our Vets.  This news made me mad and then it made me curious.  I called several of the big foundations and across the board, the first words out of their mouths were: We don't have enough money...I asked myself... WHY?

I thought about it and observed that no one buys or collects Red Crosses, Wounded Warrior emblems or U.S.O. Banners and figured that there must be a better way for American to become involved...and easier, more effective way to raise the needed dollars....and at the same time, engender patriotism and make every American, even the least among us feel, that they are helping their country and are a vital and needed part of the American team...What is needed is a marketable image....!

I am a sculptor, so I started the Freedom Angel Foundation,   a 501(c) 3 corporation,  with a lot of help from a great team of course, as I am strictly a clay pusher and not a busines man.  I thought that I could do my part and decided to build a new national monument, thirty feet high in the form of a bronze angel, to celebrate America and the Men and Women who protect her.

Our monument is not a memorial.  Memorials are needed  but they do not give a single penny back to our Vets and their families who are here... alive.... and need out help now!  Soooooo.....If what is needed by our nation's best foundations, which are well established and doing excellent work is, more dollars, then by golly we will get those dollars for them
